"Persist" - Potsketch by Elena Lourenco
Photo, organza, thread, marigold seeds, 5x5x1.5"

Elena Lourenco earned her MFA in Sculpture from Arizona State University in 2007, followed by post-graduate studies at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. A pivotal research period along the Ganges River in India remains a cornerstone of her work, sparking a career-long fascination with the spiritual connections between people and place.
Through evocative metaphors of loss and transformation, Lourenco creates mixed-media objects and installations that navigate the delicate space between the human psyche and society. Her work gives physical form to these internal narratives, examining the ways we persist through change and the evolution of the self within failing or shifting systems. Lourenco has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and internationally, including venues in Scotland, Latvia, and Italy. Currently based in Missoula, she serves as a faculty member in the College of the Arts and Media at the University of Montana.
