Good Fortune, a gouache painting, is part of Leslie Van Stavern Millar's Hand of Fatima Series. Painted during the buildup to the current middle east conflict, Millar uses imagery common to Islamic and Judaic traditions. The hand represents healing, creativity, protection and beauty; values inherent to both cultures. Millar lives and works in Arlee, Montana. As a child, Millar lived in Iran and traveled regularly to Europe. In 1972, she moved to Montana and since then has worked as an Independent Artist, exhibiting regularly throughout the Northwest. She owns and manages the Brunswick Artists Studios, providing affordable workspaces for artists and writers.

Millar has had solo exhibitions at the Missoula Art Museum and Yellowstone Art Museum; in Virginia she exhibited at the Babcock Gallery, Sweet Briar College in Amherst and Page Bond Gallery in Richmond. Her works are held in the collections of the Federal Reserve Bank of Northwest U.S., Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Jundt Art Museum, Spokane, Washington, the Missoula Art Museum, Montana Museum of Art and Culture, University of Montana, Missoula, and Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, Great Falls, Montana.
