In Laughter Under the Trees (She's Out of the Logo Maze) (2023), Jonah Freeman brings a cinematic sensibility to collage, constructing a layered composition that blurs the boundary between consumer imagery and imagined landscape. Fragments of branding and visual culture are reassembled into a scene that feels both familiar and disorienting, evoking a passage from structured commercial space into something more organic, ambiguous, and psychologically charged.

About the Artist:
Jonah Freeman (b. 1975, Santa Fe, NM) is a New York-based artist working across collage, film, installation, and painting. A graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, his practice draws on cinematic language to explore constructed environments and their social and psychological impact.

Since 2007, Freeman has collaborated with Justin Lowe as Freeman/Lowe, creating large-scale immersive installations that merge architecture and narrative. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including MoMA PS1 and Centre Pompidou, with a major Freeman/Lowe exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth opening in October 2024.
