This custom glazed ceramic ashtray is inspired by the timeless atmosphere of Bemelmans Bar, the iconic New York hideaway known for its nightly piano, late-night jazz, and historic murals by Ludwig Bemelmans. Created by Melbourne-based ceramic artist Jake Clark, the work carries his distinctive visual language-shaped by everyday environments, urban signage, and cultural iconography. The result is unique high-gloss ashtray that merges New York cultural history with Clark's artistry.

About the artist:
Jake Clark (b. 1985, Melbourne) is a ceramic artist based in Melbourne, Australia. A self-taught maker with a background in horticulture from Holmesglen Institute, Clark's work is shaped by everyday visual culture-drawing inspiration from hotels, restaurants, signage, packaging, and urban environments.

Originally influenced by graffiti and artists like Keith Haring, he transitioned into ceramics after discovering the expressive potential of clay as a sculptural medium. His practice blends iconography, graphic language, and references to familiar spaces, resulting in works that feel both playful and culturally reflective.
