About the artwork:
By reducing three-dimensional objects into highly contrasted forms, Miller gives viewers a new perspective of the orchid flower. Delicate petals and varied stem sizes create a dynamic structure more reminiscent of sculpture than a flower in nature.
Using digital X-ray technology, Miller reveals the hidden inner world of his subjects, lifting the lid on forms we pass by every day. Stripped of their usual context, these objects are rendered in smoky, ethereal tones, where black, white, and film-noir gray feel both clinical and glamorous.
Included with the art: Radiographic: X-Ray Art Book
This monograph showcases Miller's groundbreaking practice at the intersection of art and science. Featuring imagery created through X-rays, electron microscopes, MRI technology, and other scientific tools, the book explores subjects ranging from rainforest flora and fauna to blood cells, protein structures, and molecular movement-revealing hidden systems and unseen beauty within the natural world.
About the artist:
Steve Miller has presented 31 solo exhibitions internationally, with reviews in The New York Times, Artforum, ARTnews, and Art in America. A pioneer in integrating technology and fine art, he has experimented with digital tools since the early 1980s.
