Born in Asturias and raised in Barcelona, he popularized tapas in the United States with his restaurant Jaleo and leads the Jose Andres Group, which operates nearly 40 restaurants. In 2010, he founded World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit first to the frontlines of disasters and crises, serving millions of meals worldwide. Andres also advances food policy and innovation through the Global Food Institute at George Washington University. His work has earned honors, including the National Humanities Medal and multiple James Beard honors.
