Kathleen Markowitz is a Richmond-based visual artist and writer known for her complex, abstract mixed-media paintings that explore the intersections of memory, sensory experience, and perception. Her work is characterized by layered, faceted surfaces and a distinct "intuitive language" of color and marks. She views her art as a form of "giving" and a means to transform the human spirit, often refusing to define her work strictly through words (though her pieces often incorporate poetic and romantic titles) and instead letting the visual language speak to the viewer.

After receiving her MS in Gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University, Kathleen studied art with New York School of Visual Arts Study Abroad Program, Barcelona, Spain and The Accademia Di Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci, Perugia, Italy

Kathleen has exhibited in national and international venues including the United States Embassy in Hong Kong and the 2009 Tashkent 5th International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Uzbekistan.

Her work is included in many private and public collections including the Federal Reserve Bank, Capital One Corporate Collection, Westminster Canterbury, Quirk Hotel, and in the collection of Pam Royal.

She received fellowships from Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Amherst, Virginia, and the Julia and David White Artist's Colony, Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica.
