Cayuse is located in the Stones of the Walla Walla Valley. Over the past 20 years, Christophe has made it his mission to craft food-friendly wines of incredible depth, individuality and character-all from fruit grown entirely using biodynamic farming methods.
Three bottles of 2020 Camaspelo: 96 Points. A Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend with additional parts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a dash of Tempranillo is aged for 18 months in 30% new French oak barrels. It's a full-bodied melange that's both balanced and complex, with aromas of black plum, blueberries, tobacco leaf, and hints of scorched earth..
Three bottles of 2020 Cayuse Syrah En Chamberlin Vineyard: 96 Points. The 2020 En Chamberlin Vineyard from Cayuse is a scintillating 100% Syrah that is aged for 18 months in 15-20% new French oak barrels. More red and blue fruit dominated at first but quickly moves to more meaty and salty components like black olive tapenade and black-peppered salumi. Lustrous and smooth palate that ends with that perfect level of funk. Just 408 cases were crafted.
Three bottles of 2019 Cayuse Syrah Armada Vineyard: 98+ Points. The 2019 Armada comes from a higher density planting just beside the estate, and it's always a more dense, backward wine. Darker, black fruits, smoked meat, ground pepper, iron, and just subtle bloody, meaty nuances emerge from this beauty, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with building, firm tannins, wonderfully integrated acidity, and a great finish that makes you salivate due to its sense of salinity and minerality. It needs plenty of air if drinking any time soon, but is another tour de force in Rocks Syrah! It has 20-25 years of prime drinking ahead of it.
Two bottles of 2016 Cayuse God Only Knows Grenache: 98 Points. Insanely aromatic notes of potpourri, raspberry, white pepper, soot, funk, and earth are followed by bright, fresh, focused, uber-rich fruit and savory flavors. It shows a sense of delicacy and intensity with unparalleled balance. There is no end to the finish.
One bottle of 2016 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah: 100 Points. Pure perfection in a glass, the 2016 Syrah Bionic Frog is another magical wine from this estate and is as good as it gets. Creme de cassis, rose petals, menthol, ash, and smoky, meaty, and soy sauce notes all emerge from this full-bodied, singular wine. Full-bodied, expansive, and powerful yet weightless on the palate. It has ultra-fine tannins, a brilliant finish, and a singular, magical character. It matches the other worldly 2014 and 2010, and is one of the wines of the vintage.
