Moment [moh-muh nt] noun - 1. an indefinitely short period of time; instant: 2. the present time or any other particular time: 3. a definite period or stage, as in a course of events; juncture: 4. importance or consequence: 5. a particular time or period of success, excellence, frame, etc: One can find that too often in life many become so busy, so wrapped up in where they are and where they need to be. They overburden themselves, not taking the time for what is important, overlooking the beauty in their midst. Much of April Lemon's art is based on nature, and through her art she hopes that others are able to take that moment, to stop and step away from the demands of the world, their jobs, family, and obligations. Just one moment to enjoy. Her work invites us, leading, imploring us to come in and seize that moment for ourselves.

April Lemon is a Kansas-born artist whose lifelong passion for creativity began in childhood. Growing up in the small town of Muscotah, she declared at age five-while proudly handing her mother a drawing-that her autograph would one day be worth something. By her senior year at Atchison County Community High School in 1987, April was immersed in art, serving as Art Club President and painting a tiger mascot mural that still adorns the school's walls and serves as a popular backdrop for photos. Following high school, financial limitations postponed her artistic ambitions. Seeking a broader view of the world, April enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving nearly six years before dedicating the next two decades to raising her family. In 2010, she reignited her artistic journey, enrolling at Emporia State University to study glassblowing-a dream she had held for over twenty years. Her work was juried into the ESU Department of Art Annual Student Exhibition from 2011 through 2014, earning her an art scholarship in 2011. She also exhibited pieces in the Emporia Arts Council's Salon des Refusés in 2011 and 2012. In 2015, April and her husband purchased and restored a 130-year-old building in Holton, Kansas. This space became More Than Lemons, a vibrant gallery representing the work of 45 Kansas artists, alongside a hot glass studio where visitors can observe-and even participate in-the art of glassblowing. Expanding her reach, April acquired a custom-built mobile glassblowing unit, bringing the art form to schools, festivals, and communities across Kansas. Her work has earned notable recognition, including Best in Show at the St. Joseph Trails West Fine Arts Festival in 2014 and First Place in 3D Art at the same event in 2017. She has been featured in prominent venues such as the Monarch Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri; the Monarch Gallery in NOTO; the Lenexa City Center; and the Sabatini Gallery's Melting Point Glass Show in Topeka. April's expertise also extended to film, serving as the Hot Glass Technical Advisor for the movie 25 Miles to Normal, creating a gallery featured on screen, and appearing in a cameo role as herself.
