Eastern Redbud: Cercis canadensis is a highly adaptable, native tree that can be grown in a shaded or sunny site. It prefers moist soil but will tolerate dry soil if watered during the first year of transplanting. It will grow 20-25' tall and wide, and is suitable for planting under power lines and near streets or sidewalks. As it matures it is covered in beautiful pinkish purple flowers in early spring (the flowers are edible), then heart shaped leaves emerge.

Common Lilac: Syringa vulgaris is a hardy, fragrant, spring flowering shrub known for its clusters of purple, pink, or white flowers. It can be used in hedges or as a specimen plant. It prefers full sun and well drained soil, and will reach a mature height of 10-12' and 6-8' in width. It is not native but is not invasive, and its flowers attract pollinators.

• Tree ID 101 from 11am to 1pm: Learn how to hone fundamental observational skills and advanced techniques for discerning trees' identities.
• Tree Folklore from 2pm to 4 pm: Learn how trees have shaped the history of humanity.
