Friends and strangers alike gather on the edge of an abyss; the unofficial "Sunset Club" formed in awe. Dwarfed by the vast, forbidding badlands we watch the sun dip behind western mountains, casting long, dark shadows across the twisted rippled land. Formed over millions of years by sedimentation and carved by wind and flash floods, the badlands still guard secrets of undiscovered fossils and stories of ancient peoples whispered in stone.
Captured in a momentary instant, this scene comes through the lens of Chris Pyle, Discovery Cube Los Angeles' Director of Photography, drawn again and again to America's wide-open, untamed frontiers. His work has taken him from the winding Panama Canal and hidden caves of the Yucatan to the rugged Alaskan backcountry and drifting Arctic ice pack, yet it is the stark, enduring landscapes of the American West that call him home. For decades, Pyle has devoted himself to filming and photographing these wild places and their wildlife, working with PBS Television and National Geographic. The result is a body of work steeped in exploration, shaped by a distinctly American sense of place, and recognized with seven Emmy Awards for photography and documentary production.
Edge of the Abyss: Font's Point Friends will be framed in a 33 x 17 frame
