Artist M.C. "5 Cents" Jones (1918 - 2003) gained his nickname due to his height: he was an even 5 feet tall. He spent most of his life picking cotton and working as a field hand on the Lynn Plantation near the Texas border in Louisiana. His work ranged from portraits, to depictions of farm life as well as religious subjects. M.C. Jones is included in the collections of the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution and the Louisiana State Museum.
