Artist Bio
Joel Katz is a designer, photographer, and educator known for his work in information design, graphic design, and wayfinding. A recipient of the Rome Prize in 2002, he spent a year at the American Academy in Rome, marking his transition from film to digital photography.
His book And I Said No Lord, documenting Mississippi in 1964, was published by the University of Alabama Press in 2014. Katz studied at Yale University with Walker Evans. His design work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
Katz has lectured internationally and taught design at the University of the Arts.
