Artist Statement
This piece combines photo-silkscreen and painting. The halftone texture and layered pattern reference vintage advertising and decorative "feminine" aesthetics, while the pin-up pose and exaggerated palette point to the performance of beauty and desirability. It is meant to feel playful at first but also to suggest how women's bodies and identities are turned into visual products.

In my work in general, I layer photo-silkscreens, painting, typography, and pattern to re-contextualize pop culture imagery and explore gender bias, objectification, and empowerment. By combining seductive imagery with graphic pattern and irony, I aim to challenge normalized stereotypes and objectification while also reclaiming it and turning what is meant to be consumed, into something confrontational, empowered, and self-aware.

Artist Bio
Wendee Yudis is a Serigraph Mixed Media Artist whose paintings and prints have been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries in NYC, Chicago, and Philadelphia since the mid-1990's. Solo exhibitions include James Oliver Gallery (Phila), Ceres Gallery (NYC), Black Moth Gallery (Phila), and Gallery 1633 (Chicago). A selection of group exhibitions includes The Albright/Knox Museum (NY), Manhattan Graphics Center (NYC), Philadelphia Art Alliance, University of Pennsylvania: Penn Medicine, DaVinci Art Alliance in PA, and The Trenton Museum(NJ) and Pheonix Gallery (NYC).

Wendee Yudis received an MFA in Printmaking and Painting from Pratt Institute and BFA in Printmaking and Photography from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She also studied archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and photography at Richmond College in London.

In addition to being a visual artist, Wendee works as a Graphic Designer & Art Director for agencies and non-profits in NYC and Philadelphia.
