Artist Statement
This etching with drypoint is made on a copper plate. There are two large standing figures surrounded by several smaller figures. Vertical and horizontal lines in the background provide a loose grid-like schematic scaffold from which the figures emerge.

Artist Bio
Vivian Wolovitz is an American abstract painter and printmaker whose work is deeply connected to landscape and the natural world. Over a long career she has exhibited widely in the U.S. and internationally, including at the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Print Center. She has also shown with galleries in Philadelphia, New York, Toronto, Miami, and Memphis.

Wolovitz was Professor of Fine Arts at Moore College of Art & Design from 1980-2010. Her luminous, layered paintings move between abstraction and figuration, drawing inspiration from the fields and woods surrounding her Pennsylvania home.
