Artist Statement
As an explorer, I am constantly discovering new ways to create. I have an intuitive, organic approach to art making whether I am creating abstract paintings or mixed media collages. Transparency and layering plays a major role in all my artwork. Color, rhythm and texture are the supporting concepts. Each collage begins with an assortment of found, self-created and fine art papers. I cut, rip or otherwise manipulate the elements, making decisions about what works and what is needed to complete the artwork. Pieces are added bit by bit, like a puzzle, until the composition evolves. Acrylic paint is sometimes added as necessary to tone down or highlight different areas. My mission is to create something visually exciting from unrelated items, each with its own texture and dimensionality.
