Artist Statement
As a visual artist I am interested in organic forms. The figure has been the driving force behind my work. For over four decades I have been making artwork for public spaces both independently and collaboratively. This figure was a study of form. Although I had no intention of creating a form that would be relevant to todays cultural climate of discourse, this figure with her "Hands Up" seems to be here to recognize and honor the vulnerability and fear innocent people are experiencing.
Artist Bio
In my professional career, I owned an art fabrication business for large artwork and public sculpture. During that time I used a breadth of material and processes to create durable, long lasting sculpture that became part of the architecture and their environments. I have worked with a range of artist including Jeff Koons, Frank Stella, and Nancy Graves. Locally, Big Ben at Franklin Town (co-created with Alexander L. Generalis) and The Sign Boy, are among the most viewed works of public art in Philadelphia. I have worked with both traditional and contemporary tools and technologies. As an early adopter of 3D scanning and CNC machining for enlarging sculpture, I was a sought after problem-solver for enlarging skills. In the past I served on the boards of numerous arts organizations and institutions, including The University of the Arts, Philadelphia Game Lab (PGL), and TILT. I am an active board member of Avenue of the Arts Inc. (AAI), and White Box Theatre.
