Artist Statement
This image is from the artist's debut monograph 'We Keep Swimming, Until We All Reach Home', a project born out of American photographer, Jillian Guyette's curiosity for women's intergenerational relationships, inherited histories, and her esoteric upbringing. This work explores the energy of that connection, alongside Guyette's ever evolving spiritual curiosity. Featuring an essay by acclaimed Fine Art photographer Elinor Carucci, and poems by New York Times bestselling author Kate Baer, this work offers an intimate yet expansive and collaborative exploration of lineage and belonging.
Artist Bio
Jillian Guyette is an American photographer (b. 1990) from Rochester, New York. Raised in the Finger Lakes region by a psychic medium and a painter, she received a BFA in Fine Art Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2012. Known for her sensitivity with her subjects, Jillian's work is profoundly curious about how caregiving informs and impacts creative practice, the nuance of women's familial relationships, and our inherited histories. Her debut monograph- We Keep Swimming, Until We All Reach Home was published in 2025 with Daylight Books. She currently lives between New York City and Philadelphia.
