Kathleen Greco
Under The Surface, 2023
Paper watercolor block
20 x 16 x 3"
Artist Statement
Under the Surface uses paper to investigate internal and external space. To "scratch the surface" means to examine a surface superficially benefiting from a small part of something much bigger. In this process, I used an Arches watercolor paper block prized for their material resilience and archival value. I cut through the entire paper block peeling layers suggesting a bigger materiality lies underneath the surface.
