Artist Statement
‍Inspired by the female figure, and experiences that women navigate, Lost Light Luv encompasses thirty years of analogue photography and master printing by Leah Macdonald, culminating in a body of work that is emotionally charged, visually dynamic, and intensely personal. At the heart of her mixed media work: a poignant sense of revisitation and return. Through the transformation of photographs from slivers of reality into complete fantasy, she illustrates tales of womanhood, placing her figures in new and surreal environments. Throughout the creation of her visual world, Macdonald found solace in traditional wet darkroom photography, employing large format 4x5 cameras, Type 55 Polaroid film, and silver gelatin printing methods, in order to create a series of artifacts, unique monoprints, and one-of-a-kind conceptions.
