J. Carter Burch
Flowers 4, 2026
Oil on found cardboard
30 x 21"

Artist Statement
This piece which is part of a larger series of flower painting is an exploration not only of flowers as a form. It is an exploration of color, emotion and depth or lack thereof. The brushstrokes are random yet considered. Painted from memory and imagination it is an idealized and simplified depiction of domesticity.

Artist Bio
J. Carter Burch is a New York-based self-taught artist. His naive style is indicative of his childlike sense of wonder. Burch draws inspiration from great folk artists of the past, such as Mose Tolliver, Daniel Johnston, and Bill Traylor. Working across multiple mediums, Burch bridges the gap between the childlike simplicity of form and complex emotional work.
