Artist Statement
This work was done at a time when life was quite challenging for me. The idea of looking at life from a "half full" perspective was needed, but not always available. It is for me a humorous take on the concept.
Artist Bio
I am a Symbolist and a minimalist. I work from my imagination; finding images to express my experiences of life. The representation of an emotion as form and color is what compels me to do art. I began as a figurative artist, doing paintings and drawings of women. I later began incorporating natural objects with the women and finally painted or drew the objects themselves omitting the figures.
As I worked from the natural objects; for example, a twisted stick, I observed the objects and the effects of light on them closely. I endeavored to achieve a result of 3-dimensionality which I carried over into my subsequent geometric work.
It is the geometric work that I continue with now. I am still occupied with light and color and their effect on form. I do work with cones, triangles and sphere, still using natural objects from time to time. My work doesn't adhere to geometric forms, I use images as they come to me, so they might more properly be called "non-representational".
