Sandra Benhaim
Vermillion, 2019
Acrylic paint on canvas
24 x 24"
Artist Statement
This is a a non-objective abstract painting characterized by an expressive, gestural style and the use of intense acrylic colors. By referencing some of my earlier collage work as a resource, the piece incorporates complex layering, varied textures, and a blend of structural elements.
Artist Bio
Sandra, a native Philadelphian, began working representationally, and now mainly works abstractly, often in expressive and exuberant color. She works in oil, mixed media, and collages on canvas, wood panels, and paper.
She holds a BFA (merit scholarship) and an M.Ed from Temple University's Tyler School of Art. She taught art for nearly 20 years in Philadelphia's public schools. Throughout the past four decades, she's explored her creative side: by exhibiting nationally from Washington state to Florida, and in 12 solo exhibitions. Sandra's paintings are in public collections, like PNC Headquarters Tower, Pittsburgh, PA; Servier Laboratories, Boston, MA; Mondrian Investments, Philadelphia, PA, among others.
