Few communities can claim a National Historic Landmark as well as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, especially a bridge, as their symbol. Designed by civil engineer John A. Roebling as a prototype for the Brooklyn Bridge, it officially opened on New Year's Day in 1867. The Roebling Suspension Bridge was the first to span the Ohio River to connect the North and the South. Still in use today, the bridge has a fascinating history. An engineering marvel when built, it featured two primary cables, each containing 5,180 individual wires while a second set was installed later to support heavier loads. Discover the facts and lore surrounding the Roebling Bridge with this 90 minute guided walking tour of the bridge for up to 10 people. The tour, led by a member of The Covington-Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee will delve into bridge history as well as up-to-date information to help you understand and appreciate the history and engineering of the bridge. Schedule this priceless tour on a mutually agreed upon date prior to September 1, 2026.
