About TCS

The Cottage School (TCS) provides an educational environment for students with learning differences in grades K-12. We pride ourselves in meeting the student where they need to be met. We also recognize that all students learn differently, so we teach differently.

Dr. Steve Palmer, Head of School

Since joining The Cottage School (TCS) as Head of School in 2015, Dr. Steve Palmer has led the school through a transformative period of growth, innovation, and national recognition. Under his leadership, TCS has earned multiple accreditations and awards, solidifying its reputation as a leader in progressive education for students who learn differently.

During Dr. Palmer's tenure, TCS has reached several significant milestones:

2018: Launched the Elementary School Program by adding 4th and 5th grades to the main campus
2020: Oversaw the construction of Founders Hall (Building "A"), the new high school facility on the main campus
2023: Expanded the Elementary Program to include 3rd grade
2024: Acquired a new Elementary School campus two miles from the main campus, added grades K-2, and officially became a K-12 school
2025: Opened the TCS Career Center on the main campus (August 2025)
Dr. Palmer brings extensive experience in educational leadership, having served in various roles, including Teacher, Principal, Executive Director, and Superintendent. A respected advocate for students who learn differently, he has collaborated with national agencies to reform state certification standards, presented at conferences nationwide, and served on numerous state and local education boards.

Dr. Palmer currently serves as President and Chair of the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) Board.

He often shares, "TCS is where we make the magic happen. It is my goal to instill a love of learning in our students and to provide a community where each day, learning differently is celebrated."
