Description:
Thatched Roof Pagoda is a dimensional mixed-media work by Amy Calandra Davis that brings together sculpture, pattern, texture, and architectural detail in a carefully constructed composition.

At its center is one of Amy's hand-sculpted forms, created through a multi-phase process beginning with a shaped wire armature. The form is then built by hand using plaster sculptural techniques, followed by layers of decoupage and a hand-painted finish that gives the pagoda its distinctive character and depth.

The sculpture is set against a contrasting wallpaper backdrop, creating the feeling of an intimate interior or collected architectural vignette. Handmade paper lines the interior walls, while a delicate gold fillet introduces another layer of dimension and refinement.

The entire composition is finished in a whitewashed and gold frame, extending the interplay of texture and gilded detail beyond the artwork itself. Layered, tactile, and entirely unexpected, Thatched Roof Pagoda reflects Amy's approach to transforming humble materials through an intricate process of construction, embellishment, and hand finishing.
