This vintage nativity set was found in the St. Vincent de Paul Church basement during recent holiday decoration set up. Due to its unknown history, a little research suggests that it is a hand-painted glazed ceramic set from northern Italy.

The intertwined 'CL Italy' mark found on the bottom of one figurine is associated with Ceramiche Lombardi, a maker who widely exported nativities to the US during the post WWII Italian ceramics boom.

The set features rich, glossy jewel-toned colors typical of the 1950s - 1970s and has expressive faces and dramatic drapery, also very characteristic of the Lombardy-region production.

While in very good condition, three pieces were skillfully repaired by Debbie Gahan. The wooden manger was not a part of the original set and was handcrafted by Steve Carron.

The manger stands approx 15" tall, 22" wide, and 13" deep. This is a full 15 piece set and the tallest figuring stands 13".
