Owls, Butterflies, and Flowers:
Exploring Glass in the Flame
Flameworking
May 18 - 22
This five-day lampworking intensive is designed for students who want to deepen their understanding of glass as an expressive material while mastering both technical precision and artistic form. Each day focuses on a new theme - from sculpting owls and butterflies to shaping intricate flowers and functional perfume pendants. Participants will explore techniques in soft glass such as glass color mixing, texturing, controlled heating.
This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Monday through Friday, with additional studio time Monday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you would like to work with, please bring them with you.

My name is Oksana Puzhalova. I was born and raised in Russia, and for the past eight years, I have been living in Cyprus - a sunny island in the Mediterranean Sea. This year marks 15 years since I started flameworking.
Fifteen years ago, I came across some lampwork beads. When I learned they were made of glass, a thought flashed through my mind: "I know how this is made - and I want to make it myself!" Until that moment, I had no idea about any methods of working with glass. That was the beginning of my journey.
In my work with glass, details, depth, and the play of color are essential to me. I love creating layered textures on flower petals, the wings of owls and butterflies, exploring complex forms and sculptural solutions. Glass is a unique material: you need to feel it and anticipate its reactions, which is not always easy.
My biggest challenge is perfectionism. Glass does not tolerate it. Working with glass is always a search for a balance between accepting imperfection, maintaining control, and being ready to listen rather than just dictate - something I learn every day.
My work is my philosophy, my way of being an artist. I love it when people smile. It is important to me that each piece evokes joy, delight, that very genuine emotion when you open a little box - and your heart smiles. I want everyone who holds my creation in their hands to feel the warmth, care, and love poured into it.
