The BeBopShop was started by Michelle, whose daughter was born hard of hearing. When her daughter was about nine months old, the family went on a hike with her in a backpack carrier. Halfway through, they realized she had pulled out one of her hearing aids and thrown it. They found it the next day after a search and rescue effort. That moment was where the idea for the retention cord was born.
Michelle brought her sister Debbie in to help. Debbie had never used an embroidery machine before, but said yes, bought one, and together they built the BeBopShop, going from a jelly cord with a plastic clip to a paracord with a durable stainless-steel clip, and from a simple idea to a business with some of the most loyal customers in the hearing community.
In 2016, Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer. When treatments became too much, Debbie took over the day-to-day running of the shop. In 2021, Michelle passed away. The BeBopShop was so important to her sister, and it is important to Debbie. It is a connection to Michelle and to her niece, and Debbie has continued to run it for as long as there is a need.
This lot includes two hearing aid and cochlear implant necklaces and two retention cords all made with care.
