Wine From A Private Collection
2015 Chateau d'Yquem - Sauternes, France Retail $502
The 2015 d'Yquem is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Just as alluring from bottle as it was from barrel, the 2015 is a wine that engages all the senses, from the intellectual to the more hedonistic. Lilting notes of pineapple, mint, orange peel and white flowers grace the palate, but it is the wine's sense of balance and total harmony that impress most. In 2015, Yquem had its earliest start to the harvest since 1893. Even so, the winemaking team did a magnificent job of preserving freshness. The 2015 was fermented in 100% new oak, and the residual sugar is 145 grams per liter, but great wine is never about numbers. Above all else, the 2015 Yquem is a wine of energy and wines.
2016 Chateau Leoville - Las Cases 'Grand Vin De Leoville' Saint- Julien, France Retail $350
Chateau Leoville Las Cases is one of the largest and oldest classified growths in the Medoc region of France. Originally the other two Leovilles, Leoville Poyferre and Leoville Barton were part of the large estate. Today Leoville Las Cases comprises over 209 acres and has been run since 1950 by the Delon Family. Currently, the estate is run by the well-known Michel Delon. The estate stretches from Chateau Beychevelle down to Chateau Latour and the main estate is a picturesque, enclosed 100-acre vineyard depicted on the label. The winery is established as a Second Growth vineyard. A beautifully structured wine, with its tannins layered between the ripest black plums, damsons and black currants. It is opulent while remaining dense, concentrated and very serious. Certainly, a wine for long-term aging.
2015 Varoilles Gevrey-Chamberlin 1er cru "Clos does Varoilles" Retail $300
The 2015 Gevrey-Chamberlin 1er cru "Clos des Varoilles" is a powerhouse of a red Burgundy. Grown in a 6-hectare vineyard (enormous by Burgundy standards), the wine shows grand-cru level intensity. Our notes show dark cassis fruit in the nose, along with licorice and gingerbread spices. In the mouth is enormous and very long-the tannins are bold and bursting, a sign that the wine will live for decades to come.
2016 Darioush Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA Retail $200
Blended with 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, this is an impressive red wine, chalky and concentrated in tangy red fruit. With length and breadth, it has a complex structure and tightrope of tension that appeals and expands on the palate.
