One-of-a-Kind Ceramic Lamp: A Tribute to Memory

This striking, one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic lamp was created exclusively for the 2026 Hope on the Harbor Gala as a powerful artistic reflection on the biological progression of Alzheimer's disease.

Hand-thrown in stoneware, the lamp features intricate, hand-carved textures inspired by the brain's neuronal networks. As the carvings descend the form, they symbolize the gradual breakdown of these vital connections over time. A custom glaze gradient transitions from clear white to deep purple, representing both Alzheimer's awareness and the emotional journey of memory loss. The piece is finished with professional-grade electrical hardware and a textured linen shade.

"This piece is deeply personal to me. My paternal grandparents were both affected by Alzheimer's, so I've seen first hand how this disease has impacted everyone in our family. As a trained scientist and ceramicist, I often draw inspiration from my own life into my work, so I wanted to capture the specific biological and emotional weight of memory loss as I've seen it. I reflected on my relationships with my grandparents throughout the process of creating this lamp, doing my best to make a visual representation of the beauty that remains even as the neuronal connections that define us break down. It is an honor to contribute this piece in memory of my grandfather and in support of everyone currently living with Alzheimer's." - Paige Salerno, Pottery Lab
