The inspiration of this piece came from the painful and isolating process of a spiritual awakening - the feeling of sinking into sorrow as you release everything that once defined you. It reflects the quiet, almost sacred grief that can come with deep transformation. The piece captures that in-between space: where you're no longer who you were, but not yet who you're becoming. It's about honoring the heaviness of letting go, even when it's necessary for growth.
Gabi Bozeman is a Chicago-based painter working with acrylic on canvas. Since beginning her practice in 2024, she has developed a distinct visual language rooted in surrealism, emotion, and nostalgia. Her vibrant, dreamlike compositions are infused with bold color and intuitive forms that invite personal interpretation.
Drawing inspiration from memory and feeling, her work seeks to evoke a sense of familiarity-often tapping into emotions or moments that viewers may not consciously recall. Through her art, she explores the boundary between imagination and remembrance, creating visual spaces that resonate with forgotten experiences.
Though early in her artistic journey, Gabi approaches each painting as an opportunity to connect-to spark a sense of wonder, emotion, and quiet recognition in those who engage with her work.
