LAHRA was established in 2006 by a group of area HR professionals who were looking for local networking and support. Since then the group has risen to over 75 members and continues to grow. LAHRA is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). LAHRA has received many awards including the Superior Merit Chapter Award from SHRM.

LAHRA prides itself on offering quality speakers at its monthly program meetings, with an emphasis on topics which are approved for HRCI and SHRM recertification credits.
