This hollow wooden vessel by Colorado artist and master woodworker Scott DeWeese is a beautifully crafted piece made from locally sourced cottonwood.
Turned with precision, the form is elevated by a decorative mosaic band, created using pyrography (woodburning) and enhanced with layered India inks in varying tones.
The vessel is finished with a protective satin polyurethane, while the interior is painted black with gesso, creating a striking contrast that emphasizes both form and detail.
DeWeese brings decades of experience to his work, from early beginnings in his father's garage workshop in Grand Junction to a 45-year career spanning education, construction, and fine woodworking.
His recent focus on detailed turned art pieces often incorporates his signature "Baskets Illusion" technique - drawing inspiration from patterns in nature, Native American design, and architecture. Blending technical mastery with artistic exploration, this vessel is both a functional form and a sculptural statement, celebrating the beauty, texture, and versatility of wood.
