About Our Emcee

Elizabeth Sowinski

Elizabeth Sowinski describes herself as a woman of faith who is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher. She and her husband Kevin have been members of Christ the King since 1995 when they moved to Indianapolis in what they referred to as the "5 Year Plan." Fast forward thirty years and five children, (plus a daughter-in-law!) and it's clear that both Indy and Christ the King are home! The whole family is grateful for the life they have led here and the people they've known.

Liz loves her work as a private tutor for elementary students. She feels really lucky to be able to work in a field that is so personally rewarding while still giving her time to volunteer in various parish ministries. Her favorite things to do with spare time are playing games with the family, traveling, reading, or learning to play guitar!

About Our Speaker

Teresa Hodgins

Teresa Hodgins hails from St Joan of Arc parish on the north side. In between planning adventures with her husband and homeschooling their five children, Teresa finds joy in teaching, reading and writing on Catholic topics, especially focusing on the role of women in the Church. Teresa graduated from Thomas Aquinas College and then went on to the University of Notre Dame for an MTS in Moral Theology. She has served as youth minister, high school Theology teacher, host and writer for Endow, a ministry that educates women on their role in the Church through small group study. More recently, she has also found wonder in facilitating Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atria for younger children, truly enjoying the experience of educating many different ages about their Creator!

Teresa's discussion will focus on  "Lead, Kindly Light, amidst the encircling gloom".  As we enter into this darkest time of year, these words from the newest Doctor of the Church Saint John Henry Newman remind us that we need to turn our focus to the Light that shines in the darkness, giving us hope that winter will end and life will reign supreme. As women, we often get caught up in the darkness, only moving as far forward as we can feel, scrounging from one task to the next. In turning to the Light, the Church reminds us that it doesn't have to be this way.
