Experience the quiet abstraction of light and shadow in Tree Shadow on Grass, Coconino N. F., a black-and-white photograph by Arizona artist Bill Timmerman. Capturing dappled sunlight on the grassy forest floor of Coconino National Forest, this intimate image was taken while the artist and his wife camped in the area in 2020. Shown only once-at Modified Arts in a joint exhibition with artist Larry Kornegay-this piece remains one of Timmerman's personal favorites.

Artist Statement:
My photography work explores the idea of taking refuge in one's senses. It attempts to be a reminder of times when we can responsibly and beneficially take rest within ourselves by adding to that semi-conscious sense of "ourself in the world" that we all carry within. If this work has its finger on the pulse of anything, it would be the expansion of our personal moments-the moments when a person has an almost surreal sense about a given situation, such as driving, reading, wilderness walking, or looking at a picture.
