Title: Clonck
Artist: Christopher Jagmin
Medium: Encaustic and oil on wood
Dimensions: 12 x 12 inches
Date: 2011
Vivid and energetic, Clonck showcases Christopher Jagmin's distinctive approach to abstraction and mark-making. Layering encaustic and oil on wood, Jagmin builds a textured, expressive surface that invites closer inspection. The interplay of bold color, gestural lines, and embedded text reflects his ongoing exploration of communication, memory, and personal narrative.
Artist Statement: "Personally I made those encaustic works when I had real health concerns; vertigo and some back pain as I made the work. So, from that time period: canes, ladders and chairs were symbols that I used in my work. As I worked in encaustic I often had to hold on to those (real) things for support to keep my balance. The colors I used in these works got brighter as a kind of reflection to an energy I felt from painting. I loved working in encaustic and it was a period of joy for me making the work."
