May Aungthet is the chef/owner of Ahmay's Cuisine.

May grew up in Yangon, Myanmar and moved to the U.S. when she was young-but her love for cooking started with a very American ritual: watching Iron Chef battles on TV. That early obsession took her to culinary school and into a range of kitchens, from fine dining European restaurants to laid-back Asian street food joints and sushi spots.

During quarantine, May started cooking Burmese dishes at home and sharing them with friends. She started learning more traditional recipes from her mom and realized she wanted to share the food she grew up with. That's how Ahmay-which means "mom" in Burmese-was born.

What started as catering and tent pop-ups has now grown into a full-blown food truck that travels all over Florida, from Orlando to the Keys. Through Ahmay, May's on a mission to bring the bold, comforting flavors of Burmese food to as many people as possible.
