Rum distillation dates back nearly 400 years.
At its peak, Guyana was home to more than 300 sugar estates with distilleries, each producing their own signature rums.
Eventually one lone estate and distillery remained, Plantation Diamond, located on the east bank of the Demerara River.
Today Demerara Distillers Ltd., parent company of El Dorado Rum and Diamond Reserve, operates the last remaining Guyana distillery. Plantation Diamond houses 8 stills, some of which are the oldest operating stills in the world. These stills are different in composition (wood, double wood, copper, etc) and size, which yields different distillates that leads to the complexity of El Dorado Rum.
El Dorado boasts a full line of premium rum, with the El Dorado 15-year Special Reserve internationally recognized as the benchmark in its category. Laid in oak barrels for at least 15 years, this rum offers a full nose packed with dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate, pepper and rich vanilla essence.
