These "Carter's Kittens" framed and matted prints are adapted from lithographs for a 1940s advertising campaign by the Carter Ink Company.

The illustrations feature a mother cat and her kittens undertaking a variety of activities. Each kitten represents the colors of the company's nine different dyes used to make the inks.

The Carter Ink Company (1858-1976) was founded in Boston, Massachusetts and was sold to Dennison in 1975. The original paintings for the campaign were created by Albert Staehle (1899-1974), a well-known illustrator of animals, who also created Smokey the Bear, Elsie the Cow (a Borden advertisement), and Butch, his own dog that appeared on several covers of the Saturday Evening Post.

These prints are highly collectible.

There are two sets of these - see a silent auction concierge if you are interested in the second set
