Description: This grant will directly support and enhance authentic learning by transitioning abstract mathematical concepts into concrete, tangible experiences. Second-grade students are in the concrete operational stage of development and need to manipulate and physically represent numbers to build a deep, intuitive understanding of place value, addition, subtraction, and comparison. The Math Stackers provide an engaging, hands-on model for:

Place Value: Students can physically "stack" 1s, 10s, and 100s blocks to build numbers (e.g., 23 is two 10-stacks and three 1-stacks).

Operations: They can physically model addition (joining stacks) and subtraction (removing stacks) to solve real-world problems.

Engagement and Collaboration: The large size encourages small-group collaboration and critical thinking, turning problem-solving into an active, authentic experience rather than a passive paper-and-pencil exercise.
