Description: This grant will enhance authentic learning by bridging the worlds of ELA, coding, and problem-solving. Students will move from passive consumers of information to active creators of narrative and instruction. They will use the Sphero Minis to:
Map Story Narratives: Students can program the robot's movement, lights, and sounds to physically represent the plot points, character journeys, or setting of a story they are reading or writing. For example, programming the Mini to navigate a maze (representing a hero's journey) while changing color (representing a character's emotional state).
Practice Sequential Writing/Instructions: Coding requires precise, sequential steps, directly reinforcing the process of writing clear instructions, procedural texts, and understanding sequence of events.
Collaborative Problem-Solving: Students will work in teams to "debug" their code and their writing, fostering communication and critical thinking-skills essential for 21st-century careers.
