Description: This grant seeks funding to purchase an A-frame swing frame and crash mat for the campus sensory room. This sensory equipment will provide students with access to safe, structured vestibular input that supports self-regulation, body awareness, and emotional control. Currently, students identified with sensory processing needs and emotional regulation challenges have limited opportunities to access movement-based sensory supports indoors. The addition of an A-frame swing frame and compatible equipment will enhance our existing sensory space and ensure equitable access to individualized regulation tools throughout the school day. (Current ceiling hardware is no longer allowed for use as indicated by the maintenance department. Thus, requiring the addition of a stand-alone frame).
Research and evidence-based occupational therapy practices indicate that vestibular input-movement through swinging, rocking, or linear motion-can help calm, alert, and organize a student's nervous system. For many students, including those with autism, ADHD, or sensory modulation differences, the ability to engage in controlled movement breaks supports focus, participation, and engagement within the classroom.
