Description: Digital cameras will significantly support and enhance authentic learning experiences by allowing students to perform real-world forensic photography and analysis which are critical skills for the field. Students can learn and practice the professional, non-biased documentation of simulated crime scenes.
In previous years in my forensics course, students were able to utilize their personal phone cameras. This is no longer an option with the passing of the Texas law, House Bill 1481. Crime scene photography is included in the TEKS for Forensic Science.
Digital cameras are indispensable tools in forensic science, serving as the primary method for permanent, non-subjective documentation of crime scenes and physical evidence. Camera use is governed by strict protocols to ensure that every image is an accurate, authentic, and admissible record in a court of law.
