Description: In a rare opportunity to combine Art and Engineering, this grant will fund the purchase of a clay 3D printer, allowing students in both the Engineering and Art departments at Friendswood High School to explore cutting-edge additive manufacturing with ceramics. This shared resource will bridge technical innovation and artistic expression, giving students hands-on experience with a technology that merges digital design, materials science, and creative craftsmanship. Engineering students will design and test ceramic rocket engines, while art students create complex ceramic pieces using the school's kiln. Through this cross-curricular approach, students apply real-world concepts in thermodynamics, materials science, and digital design while gaining industry-relevant experience in additive manufacturing, aerospace, and the arts. This collaboration encourages innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving-hallmarks of authentic learning in FISD that connect classroom knowledge to tangible, real-world outcomes.
