Description: This grant will provide fluorescent light covers that create a more comfortable, focused, and student-centered learning environment in our classroom. Harsh fluorescent lighting can lead to glare, flickering, and eye strain-conditions that distract students from learning and may trigger headaches, anxiety, or sensory overload. By diffusing light, these covers support students' visual comfort and help maintain attention during hands-on, project-based activities central to authentic STEM learning.
Many students in our classes have sensory sensitivities, including ADHD and autism. Softened, consistent lighting can significantly improve their ability to process information, participate in collaborative work, and remain engaged without feeling overwhelmed. A calm physical environment also cultivates confidence and encourages students to take risks in problem-solving and design challenges.
Improved lighting enhances mood, reduces stress, and supports a positive classroom climate that benefits all learners. When students feel safe and comfortable, they are more willing to explore real-world scenarios and applications-connecting classroom concepts to future career pathways.
