Description: This grant will enhance authentic learning by providing a concrete, tactile model for abstract mathematical concepts. Authentic math understanding relies on visualization, and these tiles enable students to see the difference between various denominators and understand the relationship of parts to a whole. By using these manipulatives, students will engage in the authentic mathematical practice of modeling operations (addition, subtraction, comparison) with fractions and mixed numbers, leading to deeper conceptual understanding that traditional paper-and-pencil work often fails to achieve.
