View at North Providence, Rhode Island by Edward Seager (1809-1886) graphite pencil, 1843.

Seager moved to Canada from England in 1832. He traveled and sketched in Panama and Cuba in the 1830s. In 1844 he became drawing master at the English High School in Boston where the sculptor John Rogers was one of his students. Seager became the first professor of drawing and drafting at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis from 1850 to 1867. His works are in many museum collections throughout the United State including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
