Nestled in the vibrant upstairs studio at 209 8th Street in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, the Mountain Valley Weavers have woven a rich tapestry of tradition and creativity since 1996. Originally established in 1988 as a vocational weaving program by Mountain Valley Developmental Services, the Weavers received a generous endowment of three looms from a local Aspen family to kickstart their journey. Over the years, this program has empowered adults receiving services from Mountain Valley to hone their weaving skills and create stunning hand-woven goods. In 1996, the historic building underwent a transformation, adding a retail space alongside the studio, providing a showcase for the exquisite craftsmanship of the Weavers. Fast forward to 2013, and the retail store evolved into Art on 8th, a thriving gallery celebrating the fine craft of local Colorado artists while still featuring the beloved woven creations of the Mountain Valley Weavers. Today, the weaving studio remains a focal point, drawing both visitors and locals alike to experience the magic of this enduring tradition.
