ANAHITA BAGHERI is an Iranian interdisciplinary artist based in New York City. She completed her MFA at Parsons School of Design on a full presidential scholarship. Bagheri has exhibited at the 2nd Iran Contemporary Art Biennial, Arsenal Contemporary, Transmitter, and BravinLee in NYC; Bon-gah Art Book Fair, O Gallery, Etemad Gallery, and Soo Contemporary in Tehran. She has been awarded the 2025 NYFA IAMP and residencies at Vermont Studio Center, Ucross Foundation, Blue Mountain Center, and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Flowers appear in Bagheri's work as social, cultural, and political symbols, referencing how they appear in SWANA art, especially through Eslimi-Khataei motifs (twisting floral motifs like arabesque). She reverses the 2D tradition of Eslimi-Khataei into contemporary 3D sculptures. In her later work, feminine delicate flowers become sharp as a statement of agency and defiance. Her flowers regain power through their dangerous edges, becoming symbols of active resistance.
